The European Parliament has adopted a draft directive on the reform of consumer protection legislation, which aims to strengthen consumers’ rights vis-à-vis online marketplaces and comparison services. These services must ensure that customers are informed about personalized prices and the parameters on which they are based. In addition, user reviews should be verifiably authentic. Among other things, it should be considered misleading if paid product placements are displayed in search results without a corresponding notice. The European Council still has to approve the draft(press release from the European Parliament dated 17.04.2019).
